Security Licence ID Armband or Lanyard – Which One’s Best?

Security Licence ID Armband or Lanyard – Which One’s Best?

If you’re a security guard, you already know the drill—you’ve got to wear your security licence on you at all times while working. It has to be above the waist, unless you’ve got an exemption (like if you’re doing personal protection work). But the question is, what’s the best way to wear it?

Most guards stick to either a security licence ID armband holder or a lanyard with an ID holder. Both have their place, but which one is better? Let’s break it down.

Armband Holder – The Safer, Sturdier Option

For most security jobs, an armband holder is the way to go. It’s secure, it doesn’t dangle around, and most importantly, it can’t be grabbed or pulled off like a lanyard can.

  • It stays put – No swinging around, getting caught on things, or falling off.
  • It’s safer – No risk of someone yanking it and using it against you.
  • It’s weatherproof – If you're working outside, an armband keeps your licence dry.

If you’re working in clubs, bars, retail security, or anywhere there’s a risk of things getting physical, an armband is definitely the better option.

Lanyard with ID Holder – When It Makes Sense

Now, there are times when a lanyard does make more sense. If you're working a sporting event, concert, or corporate gig, a lanyard might be the better option, especially if you’re wearing a suit. An armband over a blazer? Not the best look.

That said, one of the biggest issues with lanyards is that they can be grabbed—which is why at Secgear, we only sell clip-release lanyards. If someone tries to pull it, the clip detaches instead of dragging you around.

So, Which One Should You Use?

  • If you’re on club security, retail, or static sites – go with an armband. It’s safer and more secure.
  • If you’re working an event, corporate job, or wearing a suit – a lanyard might be the better option.

Either way, we’ve got both options at Secgear, so you can get the right setup for your job.
